A surgical body contouring procedure based on the principles of cyber surgery—meaning surgical techniques performed using robots or bionic devices—has been presented at the Madrid Medical Association.

This method, previously introduced at The City University of New York–Hunter College in the United States, allows for the removal of fat deposits accumulated in different areas of the body without traumatic incisions, stitches, or large scars. The procedure typically takes about an hour, does not require hospitalization, and is generally performed under local anesthesia.

The procedure consists of three phases. First, with the help of a high-precision body scanner, the amount of fat that needs to be removed from each area is determined in order to achieve optimal results.

Next, a laser micro-cannon is used to “target” the fat deposits requiring treatment. The laser passes through the skin without damaging it, reaches the fatty tissue, and not only disintegrates selected fat excesses but also causes skin contraction (a lifting effect) that helps reduce sagging.

Depending on the condition of the areas to be treated, other devices—like the laser—are also used to break down unwanted fat and reduce skin laxity without any skin incisions. The most commonly used are those that emit ultrasound and radiofrequency.

Part of the dissolved fat is gradually expelled through natural physiological processes. The remaining fat is removed by inserting a device through a tiny incision (which requires no sutures) into the treated area. This device eliminates any stubborn fat deposits that resisted the laser, ultrasound, and radiofrequency, as well as the excess fat that the body cannot naturally expel.

Finally, a massage is performed on the treated areas using a motorized roller to even out the skin’s surface.
