INTERVENTION

The blepharoplasty procedure lasts approximately between 30 minutes and 1 hour, depending on the type of intervention.

In our clinic, upper blepharoplasty is performed under local anesthesia, allowing the patient to resume activities without hospitalization. For lower eyelid treatment, we use general anesthesia in an outpatient surgery, so the patient can return home the same day with a safe and controlled recovery.

POST-OPERATORY

After blepharoplasty, it is common during the first 48 to 72 hours to experience swelling, mild bruising, and sensitivity in the treated area. To relieve these symptoms and promote recovery, it is recommended to apply cold compresses several times a day and sleep with the head slightly elevated.

From the fifth day, and depending on the patient’s progress, stitches are removed, marking the beginning of progressive improvement in the eyelids’ appearance. During this stage, it is essential to protect the area from direct sun exposure with sunglasses, a cap, or sunscreen. It is also advised to avoid physical exertion, dusty or smoky environments, and makeup use until authorized by the specialist.

In general, everyday activities can be resumed from the first week. Although results start to be noticeable from the second week, the final appearance usually consolidates between two and three months.

What do blepharoplasty scars look like after one month?

One month after blepharoplasty, scars are usually in an initial healing phase but already show very favorable progress. The incisions, located in the natural folds of the upper eyelid or just below the lashes in the lower eyelid, begin to lose the reddish tone characteristic of the first days and acquire a lighter, flatter appearance, making them discreet and hardly visible.

AMoreover, if postoperative instructions have been followed correctly, such as avoiding sun exposure, applying cold compresses, and keeping the area clean, the scars tend to integrate well into the skin without discomfort or aesthetic issues.

When the transconjunctival technique is used for the lower eyelid, no external visible scar remains, contributing to an even more natural result.

Is it normal to have sad-looking eyes after blepharoplasty?

It is not normal to have sad-looking eyes after a well-planned blepharoplasty that respects facial anatomy, since this appearance is usually related to incorrect surgical execution, such as removing too much skin, causing lower eyelid retraction, or altering its position.

If you are facing this situation, we recommend consulting our secondary blepharoplasty specialists. They will carry out a detailed evaluation of your case, guide you on the available options, and define the most suitable treatment to restore the natural shape of the eyelid and the expressiveness of your eyes.

What to expect 4 months after blepharoplasty?

At 4 months post-blepharoplasty, the recovery process is practically complete, and the results are stable and natural.

The eyelids show a defined, symmetrical, and rejuvenated appearance, while the scars, located in natural folds, have blended with the skin texture and are almost imperceptible. Eyelid function is normal, without tightness or discomfort, and the eyes reflect freshness, rest, and vitality.
