The Olsens, two twins who are no longer identical

Surely you have heard of the Olsens, two young twin sisters whom we have known since they were very small thanks to their participation in the series Full House. Their names are Ashley and Mary-Kate, and they were like two drops of water… “Were,” we write, because they no longer are. The media are spreading the news that, at 28 years old, they have stopped being the same.

What are the changes the Olsens have undergone?

Evidently, the person responsible for the change is cosmetic surgery. Journalists claim that Mary-Kate (the partner, incidentally, of Oliver Sarkozy, brother of the former French president) has new cheeks, jaw, and nose. As if that were not enough, she has also changed her hairstyle.

The physical alteration, striking in itself, is even more so because Mary-Kate frequently appears alongside her mirror-sister, the woman who reminds her what she should look like. Although with nuances, because neither of the two has let time do its work.

According to the chronicles, despite their youth, the Olsens had already previously resorted to cosmetic surgery before this major transformation and had had their cheekbones, jaw, and nose retouched. The difference is that, until now, both of them (according to those who claim to know) had coordinated so that the change would be the same in both.

For her part, it is not out of the question that Ashley may in turn undergo new cosmetic surgery procedures that further distance (in physical appearance) the twins even more.

To add insult to injury, the result of the cosmetic surgery has been heavily criticized on social media, and compared with that recently experienced by Renée Zellweger. Mary-Kate, for the moment, has said nothing. She only shows herself.

It remains to be seen whether the alterations caused by cosmetic surgery will shake their status as fashion icons, with that boho chic look (a mix of cheap and expensive garments, bohemian and hippie clothing with accessories and designer pieces) that the Olsens have contributed so much to popularizing.

Because although they were headed toward acting, the Olsen twins changed their professional course and became successful designers, to the point that three years ago Time magazine included them on the list of the 100 greatest icons in the history of fashion, a ranking where they shared relevance with greats such as Coco Chanel, Miuccia Prada, Tom Ford, John Galliano, or Alexander McQueen.
