Facial fillers have carved out a place in aesthetic medical treatments. We are increasingly finding new options to combat the passage of time on our skin. I am going to talk about a botox alternative that is gradually gaining ground, aimed at superficial skin wrinkles and based on an evolution of hyaluronic acid. It is the blanching technique.

How is blanching performed?

This technique consists of injecting hyaluronic acid at a very superficial level “at the level of the wrinkle”; this allows us to soften it or make it disappear without adding volume, which is very important in areas such as, for example, barcode lines (those small vertical wrinkles that form above the lip and also below the lip). Generally, we do not want to create the duck lips effect, so this technique is very suitable.

Where can blanching be performed?

It can actually be performed on any wrinkle, not only on the so-called barcode lines, even on the neck, any small wrinkle on the face.

Why is it called blanching?

The reason is simple: when injecting into the wrinkle located in the superficial dermis, the skin turns white, which is a completely temporary effect.

Blanching: What is it and how is this procedure with hyaluronic acid performed?

Treatment duration?

The duration of the treatment depends somewhat on the area where it is performed. There are areas that are more mobile and it lasts a little less, and there are areas that are a little more static and it lasts a little longer.

Is the procedure painful?

Like most facial aesthetic procedures, the blanching treatment is not painful. Topical anesthesia can be applied, and the product we use also contains lidocaine, so the treatment is quite comfortable.

Product

We use Belotero Balance, which can be used at a very superficial level and is a product that gives very good results. This technique complements botulinum toxin very well, for example, when we apply it between the eyebrows, on the forehead, and on crow’s feet. Sometimes the wrinkles are already so marked that botulinum toxin is not enough to soften them or make them disappear; that is when we use this new technique, the blanching technique.
