Meg Ryan: did she go too far?

There was a time when films like You’ve Got Mail or When Harry Met Sally delighted half the world, and their star, Meg Ryan, became «America’s sweetheart», which is the expression coined to describe the box office’s favourite actress in the United States.

But the sweetheart grew older, and she did not want to, or did not know how to, accept it. To fight against time, perhaps also to revive a declining career, Ryan entered a spiral of cosmetic procedures and now the media following her changes lament it:

But that no one, neither those considering putting themselves in the hands of a specialist nor the professional themselves, should be carried away by factors such as the exaltation of youth or the dictates of fashion, and that the patient must have a reasonable and realistic idea of what cosmetic surgery procedures can offer them, as well as their limitations and risks.

We cannot go too far

Prudence is a good adviser, both in medical treatments and in surgical procedures, and just as we know how much this specialty can do for people, we have to know when to stop, when to say enough.

The case of Meg Ryan is just one of many in which someone asked for the moon and someone else, ignoring common sense and professional ethics, did not know how to say enough.
