It has been shown that men who are satisfied with their reproductive organs have greater self-confidence and higher self-esteem. However, some men suffer from serious complexes and psychological problems related to their genitals. That is why male genital cosmetic surgery has been on the rise, as it is a procedure that can help resolve these problems, which are carried over from adolescence.
When is male genital cosmetic surgery indicated?
We know that a full intimate life is important for personal fulfillment, and many men cannot enjoy it due to some anomaly in their reproductive organ. That is why the reshaping of the external genitals is recommended for people who wish to improve the appearance of their genitals.
How many types of genital surgery for men are there today?
There are different types of surgical procedures with varied objectives, but fundamentally they aim to improve the patient’s intimate and psychological life. The most common are:
Elongation phalloplasty (lengthening of the male genital organ)
It is performed by partially releasing the ligaments that attach the corpora cavernosa to the pubis. Sometimes it is complemented by shifting the skin of the scrotum or by liposuction of the pubis. The increase obtained varies, ranging from 1.5 cm to 4 cm. In this type of procedure, the angle of erection in a standing position is modified, from a more vertical preoperative position to a less elevated postoperative one, but without interfering with the ability to have intercourse.
Girth-enhancement phalloplasty in the flaccid state
There are techniques suited to each particular case, such as grafts of fat previously taken from the abdomen or thighs. Others use skin and fat grafts, or even dermal collagen grafts. Together with the previous procedure, these are the two most requested in the field of male genital surgery. Correction of buried penis This is due to excess skin or fat in the pubis and abdomen, aggravated by radical circumcision in childhood. This alters its own position, resulting in an inconspicuous penis that even forces the patient to sit down to urinate. In these cases, performing liposuction, with or without removal of excess tissue, and fixing the residual tissues to the base of the erectile bodies would greatly improve this situation.
Phimosis
The narrowness of the foreskin prevents the glans from being exposed. A short frenulum can tear and bleed during erection, and in the long run can cause problems in intimacy. The procedure is very simple: it consists of cutting the frenulum, thereby lengthening the distance from the glans to the foreskin. This treatment is advisable at an early age.
Congenital curvature of the penis
During erection, deviations to either side are possible. It should be corrected in cases where it interferes with having pleasurable intimate relations. Straightening can be achieved by applying sutures on the convex side. It occurs in one in every 300 men.
Peyronie’s disease or plastic induration of the corpora cavernosa
The induration most frequently occurs in men aged between 40 and 60. It can promote the formation of a plaque, resulting in a curved erection and shortening. To improve this situation, the plaque is removed and the area is filled with dermal or venous grafts. Congenital absence of testicles This deficiency can be solved by implanting silicone gel or saline prostheses, which offer a size and appearance similar to a normal testicle.
Scrotal rejuvenation
The passage of time causes aging of the genital area. The scrotal skin can take on a sagging appearance, producing a “pendulous look” in the scrotum. Its correction involves reducing the excess skin.
And what about the male member?
In all these procedures, the urinary function of the penis is preserved and, with regard to intimate relations, the angle of erection may be modified, although without affecting the ability to have intercourse. Temporary changes in sensitivity are also common, mainly due to postoperative inflammation. The estimated time to resume relations with other people is usually between 2 and 4 weeks, depending on the type of procedure performed.
