According to the Daily Mail, the surgery aims to slim down the toes, a condition that has been dubbed toebesity (obesity of the toes).

The surgeons who perform these procedures reported that more and more people are paying too much attention to the aesthetic details of their feet. The procedure to slim down the toes removes fat deposits and is very popular among patients, but according to the NYC FootCare website, it is also possible to reduce the size of the toe next to the big toe, if it is longer than the first one.

Specialists disagree with this type of surgery and have explained their reasons:

“Cosmetic foot surgeries are a very bad idea,” Derek Ochiai, a specialist in hip arthroscopy and Sports Medicine, tells HuffPost Voces. “Unlike other areas of the body, the feet carry all our weight. A foot that is functioning normally (no pain when walking and no pain caused by footwear) could suffer a change in its function with cosmetic surgery,” explained the member of the Nirschl Orthopaedic Center.

“At best, there will be no noticeable change in function; at worst, the surgery could cause pain when walking or wearing shoes,” he adds, noting that there are always potential risks such as infection, nerve damage, blood clots, deformity, and dangers from the use of anesthesia.

Surgeons do not recommend this type of foot surgery. If you would like more information on this topic, write to us at [email protected] or visit our Facebook.
