Aesthetic Surgery of Eyelids or Blepharoplasty

It is the surgical procedure used to correct drooping upper lids and / or bags that appear under the eyes (lower lids), in order to rejuvenate, give light to the look, eliminating the appearance of tiredness and even interference in vision.

This operation is indicated for those people who have pockets of fat on the eyelids(sensation of swelling), and an excess of unsightly skin. Usually they are traits which appear from the age of 35 but can occur in younger people with inherited. After the operation it is necessary to apply on the eyelids cold (ice) to decrease the edema and bruises. At approximately three hours the patient is discharged.

What is a blepharoplasty?

Who needs an eyelid surgery?

Technique.

Recovery.

After the operation it is necessary to apply on the eyelids cold (ice) to reduce the edema and bruising.

After three hours, more or less, the patient is discharged from hospital. and Once home, keep cold compresses or ice for 48 hours, keeping the head up and taking analgesics and anti-inflammatory. You should follow the indications as to the cleanliness of the eyes, and is quite normal to get a feeling of tightness or dry eyes.

The stitches will be removed on the third or fourth day, and while the patient is not incapasitated at any time it is necessary at least 4 days to commence their normal life. However, the ecchymosis, always present in greater or lesser degree, it takes between 8 and 10 days in the disappearance.

Deserves a special mention to those who use contact lenses, which should be avoided with their use for a period of two weeks.

Complications.

  • Round Eyes: Here in this case there is a white band under the iris, where it is equal to or less than 1 mm., it is temporary, but if greater, evidence of excess skin resection.
  • Ectropion: Occurs when the lower lid is down and slightly everted and produced by excess skin removal. Is necessary to treat a skin graft which achieves an acceptable cosmetic result.
  • Bruising: The collection of blood that occurs when a glass bleeding after surgery. It is usually necessary to surgically evacuate.
  • Tearing Epiphora: Occurs when there is an irritant (thread), or keratitis exposure (drying of the cornea), sometimes with conjunctivitis, in all three cases it is easily resolved. Can also occur by an alteration in the lacrimal pathways, inflammatory in the origin and is generally usually transient.

Advice.

Put cold dressings on surgical site during 48 hours after surgery.

Wash eyes several times a day with saline solution to prevent the accumulation of secretions.

Stay rested in the majority of time with your head elevated during the first 48 hours, to limit the extent of swelling and bruising.
