According to researchers, attractive people looking for work receive 36 percent more responses from companies than less attractive people. And some have concluded that they can earn up to 17% more.
Experts from the University of Ontario and Ariel University (Israel) reached the same conclusion in a study that examined whether attractive people have more opportunities to be hired, reporting that an average-looking man must send twice as many resumes as a good-looking man for a company to contact him.
The advantages of beauty have also been studied in Finland: The Research Institute of Industrial Economics backed this up and said that more attractive political candidates have that advantage over those with a less aesthetically pleasing appearance.
In the report investigating whether more attractive people had an advantage when looking for work, 25 faces were manipulated using photo-editing software from a hundred real photographs to produce a sample of attractive and unattractive faces, following the beauty parameters set out in a previous study that proposed new ideal facial proportions.
Conclusions:
The measurements considered ideal for an attractive face are when the vertical distance on the face between the eyes and the mouth is approximately 36 percent of its length, and when the horizontal distance between each eye is 46 percent of the width of the face. There is a tool available to work this out, but other scholars on the subject have added a very valuable observation: that a person’s attractiveness is not only physical, since talent, people skills, and character ultimately add to or subtract from the final evaluation.
