The official Xinhua agency reported that the government has banned the manufacture, sale, and use of Polyacrylamide hydrogel, used in Chinese cosmetic surgery and in contact lenses, because it is harmful to health.
A decree from the State Food and Drug Administration ordered the ban after 182 patients suffered side effects from implants containing that substance.
Polyacrylamide hydrogel is considered an alternative to silicone, which is also banned in cosmetic surgery in countries such as the United States.
Breast, cheek, or hip enlargement are the cosmetic procedures most requested by women in China, a country where these surgical interventions are usually charged at much lower prices than in the West, due to the enormous competition that exists.
The addiction to cosmetic surgery in China, South Korea, or Japan is such that last year the “Miss Artificial Beauty” contest was launched, awarding the woman who has managed to become more beautiful after going under the knife.
According to a recent study, 80 percent of plastic surgery operations performed in China cause infections, leave unwanted sequelae, and do not satisfy the patient.

At our clinic, many treatments are performed on patients with complications resulting from the use of polyacrylamide. In the lips and face, this product causes granulomas and many times more than one surgery must be performed for its complete removal.

Dr. Fernández Blanco is an expert in correcting the unwanted effects resulting from previous surgeries.
